Las Comaires is a duo of popular Chilean folk singers dedicated to reinterpreting traditional Chilean repertoire, as well as creating new compositions that contribute to the country’s national songbook. Their artistic approach draws deeply from popular culture, both in sound and in the themes they explore.
Both members were trained in renowned national ensembles such as Conjunto Cuncumén and the Ballet Folclórico Nacional (BAFONA), and they hold degrees in Music Education from the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences (formerly known as Pedagógico).
With over 15 years of experience, Las Comaires have performed on a wide variety of stages across the country, participating in folk festivals, cultural fairs, traditional celebrations, cueca championships, and community events. They have been recognized and featured in important events such as the Cueca Festival of Santa Cruz, the Tonada and Cueca Festival of Valparaíso, the Milk and Meat Festival in Osorno, the Loncoche Festival, the Limache Festival, the Christmas Carol Festivals of Nancagua and Quinta Normal, the Harvest Festival in Molina, the Folk Festival of Paine, and the Patagonia Festival in La Unión. They have also been invited to perform at major national events such as the oQicial opening of the Fondas at Parque O’Higgins in Santiago, during ceremonies attended by Presidents Michelle Bachelet and Gabriel Boric.
As composers and performers, their work has received several distinctions, including the Margot Loyola Award for Folk Music in 2018 and 2019, and the Pandero de Oro award for Best Cueca Song of the Year in 2017.
With seven recorded albums including cuecas, tonadas, and Christmas carols, Las Comaires have carved a meaningful path in preserving and revitalizing Chile’s popular music traditions. Their work has positioned them as one of the most relevant and authentic acts in today’s Chilean folk scene.
